Launched in 2001, the .NAME universal extension is the only one supposed to be for personal websites only. These domains can consist of personal or fictional names, nicknames and/or other labels people are known by. At first, solely 3rd-level registrations were possible, so if you wished to buy john.doe.name, you were required to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was loosened and second-level registrations were also allowed. Already acquired 3rd-level names remained operational.

You will have the chance to correct the WHOIS details, to park your domain, to create Custom DNS records, etc. You can also transfer an existing domain to our company if you receive its EPP transfer authorization code from the present registration service provider and we will renew it as soon as the transfer has been done. There are no specific restrictions on who can get a .NAME domain name, but in order to preserve the objective behind its creation alive, the .NAME Registry organization may check who the owner is and if there is no link between the owner and the actual domain name, the registration could be challenged.
